Ride with Dan USA campaigns to raise suicide prevention awareness

A military veteran who has personally struggled with thoughts and attempts of suicide is now biking through the continental U.S. to raise support and awareness for suicide prevention.

Daniel Hurd, founder of Ride with Dan USA and One Pedal at a Time Movement, says he hopes to help people who need help to realize they're not alone and as a community can make significant change for those who need it.

"I've been very fortunate for 55 people that haven't committed suicide because of this journey through social media, news media and actually crossing paths with them in person on their way to commit suicide.   So those connections, as much as it was a tough situation in the moment, has really been what keeps me going and keeps me motivated to continue to help other people.  Because we're not alone.  At the baseline, we're all the same.  We all have the same story.  It's a story of struggle and ultimately, we want to triumph - we want to come out on top."

Hurd says when a friend got him to ride a bicycle, he realized that life was just one pedal at a time. The non-profit promotes bicycling and living in the moment, donating money received to various charities.
